Local musician Bubba Plauche’ found his start in music through an unexpected accident that left him injured. Picking up a guitar became part of his healing process, but it quickly grew into something more, a way to connect with people and share joy. Decades later, that joy hasn’t faded. We had the chance to chat with Bubba and talk about his journey, his songs, and the heart behind his music.

Caitlen: Tell us your story as a musician, what first lit the musical spark for you?

Bubba: I first started playing music in 1991 when I was 20 years old. I was playing baseball at North Lake College in Irving, Tx. I came home for Christmas break and was in a car wreck and was bedridden for 3 months with various injuries. I had a "frozen Shoulder" and had to do physical therapy for it. Part of my physical therapy was taking a golf club and moving my arm away from my body. So instead of a golf club I started using a guitar and would try to play songs to keep my mind off the pain. Friends would come visit me and show me different cords. They played a big part in teaching me how to play.

Caitlen: Was there a moment early on when you knew that playing live music was the life you wanted?

Bubba: Once I started learning songs, I would play at parties with my friends. I saw how much fun and joy it brought to people and seeing this made me happy. Thats when I started going to Tony's Donut Shop for open mic. I wasn't any good back then and was usually last in the lineup. Eventually, I got better and in 1997 me and my wife moved to Nashville. Lived there till 1999 and moved back after my oldest son was born.

Caitlen: Pick one of your originals and bring us into it, how does that song echo who you are?

Bubba: It would probably be my newest one I just wrote called "My Favorite is You". Every evening me and my wife let our dogs out in the back yard and sit there and let them run around and bark at the gate. A simple little pleasure in life.

Caitlen: What’s your guilty pleasure song that you secretly love but people wouldn’t expect?

Bubba: Right now, Miami My Amy. I've always loved that song and started playing it again. I forgot what a beautiful song that is and I'm enjoying playing it.

Caitlen: What do you aim for the audience to take away from your performance?

Bubba: I just want them to have fun. Part of playing live music is giving a little bit of you to the people listening. If I can find a song that moves them, makes the laugh or cry or just sing along, then I'm doing it right and hopefully they will want to come back and see me again.

Bubba’s story is a reminder of the healing power of music and the way live performances create real connections that lift both artist and audience. With every show, he shares a piece of himself, turning songs into moments that stay with you. Catch him around town, you’ll be glad you did.

You can catch Bubba this Saturday October 4th, 2025 at Riverbend Terrace II at L'Auberge at 8pm. Plus, follow Bubba on Facebook at facebook.com/bubba.plauche to stay updated on his latest shows and music.
