Aaron Day has a way of making listeners feel at ease, he's authentic, humble, and gently soothing in every note. With smooth vocals and an acoustic guitar in hand, he pulls you in with songs that reflect the struggles we all face while shining a light on the hope that carries us through. We caught up with him to hear more about his story, check out our interview below.
Caitlen: How did you first get into music, and why does it stick with you?
Aaron: I first got into playing music whenever I was in middle school. I always loved music and decided I wanted to play in the band, and I ended up being paired with the French Horn. Whenever I started to learn I fell in love with the process of making music and incorporating different elements into a song. It taught me how to appreciate the work that goes into making a piece great. It wasn’t until 2022 that I decided to play the guitar and write my own music. My friends are the ones to thank for pushing me to keep creating my own sound.
Caitlen: What’s at the heart of the songs you write?
Aaron: The original music that I write is based off experiences that I’ve gone through in my teens. Maybe some newer experiences too but I write them to give everyone a song that they can relate to whenever they are going through similar situations. I make them to give a little light to darker situations and make the brighter moments greater.
Caitlen: What has playing live taught you about yourself as a musician?
Aaron: Playing live is a whole different experience than playing for your friends and family. Whenever I started playing live I always wanted my songs and anything that I covered to be perfect to a tee. But of course no one is perfect and even if I beat myself up about it, I knew that it wouldn’t change that I made a mistake. So I learned how to adapt and adjust the songs to my voice but I also realized that those “hiccups” created entertainment too. It gives me a laugh everytime it happens in a show and I don’t worry about it as much as I used to. It instilled confidence in me to keep playing and not give up on the song.
Caitlen: What’s the most unforgettable moment you’ve had on stage, and why does it stick with you?
Aaron: The most unforgettable moment I’ve had was traveling to Oklahoma for the first time to play a festival. Hundreds of people sang the first song I released back to me and it made me tear up on stage. It’s the moment that I realized that I could possibly make a difference in someone’s life through my music; and that’s what it’s about for me.
Caitlen: After a show, what do you hope people walk away feeling?
Aaron: I hope whoever stumbles upon or plans to watch me leaves with a smile on their face. Not a smile that relates to listening buts smile that shows they know everything will be okay. I hope to provide a place that people can forget about hardship and struggles and just have a great time being themselves.
Aaron Day isn’t just playing songs, he’s out to make a difference with his music. His shows create moments where people can let go of their worries and feel connected, and that kind of community is something we all need. It feels like this is only the beginning for Aaron Day, and we’ll definitely be hearing more from him.
